Second party: John, king of Castile and Leon, duke of Lancaster, earl of Richemond [Richmond].
Place or subject: Whereas the king has lately granted to John, his son [John of Gaunt], the castle, vill and honor of Hertford and the vills of Beyford [Bayford], Esendon [Essendon] and Hertfordyngbury [Hertingfordbury], together with members and appurtenances which Isabella, late queen of England, the king's mother, held while she was alive, and which after her death passed into the king's hands, to hold to John in the form specified in the grant, the king grants the premises again. To hold to John, the king's son, and his heirs in tail male, together with knights' fees, advowsons of churches, liberties, issues, profits, emoluments and all other appurtenances, of the king and his heirs by the services due and accustomed forever. If John dies without heirs male, then after his death the premises are to entirely revert to the king and his heirs.
