Description

Folios: 226v-227. Norfolk. Final concord.

First party: Thomas, abbot of St Edmund, by Brother John de Everesdon, his attorney.

Second party: Henry de Lacy, earl of Lincoln.

Place or subject: The manor of Est Bradenham [East Bradenham] with appurtenances and the advowson thereof, which Juliana, formerly the wife of Walter de Sturton holds for the term of life. Whereupon a plea of covenant was summoned between them in court. Namely that the earl acknowledged the manor and advowson to be the right of the abbot and his church of St Edmund. And he granted for himself and his heirs that the manor and advowson, which Juliana held for life from the inheritance of the earl on the day on which this concord was made, and which after her death ought to revert to the earl and his heirs, after her death are to entirely remain to the abbot and his successors and the church of St Edmund. To hold of the chief lords of that fee by the services which pertain to that manor and advowson forever. For this concord the abbot received the earl and his heirs in every single prayer and benefit, which will be made from henceforth in the church of St Edmund forever. This fine was made by order of the king and by his special licence, in the presence of Juliana, who made fealty to the abbot in court.

County: [Norfolk].

Additional people: Made before William de Bereford, Lambert de Trikingham [Threekingham], Henry de Stanton [Staunton] and Henry le Scrope, justices.

Made in the king's court at Westminster.

The quindene of Trinity, 2 Edw II.
