Description

Folio: 214v. Herefordshire. Indenture.

First party: Thomas Hungerford, knight, and William de Bughbrugg', clerk.

Second party: John de Eylesford, knight, of Monesley [Munsley].

Place or subject: John has enfeoffed the duke of Lancaster of all the lands, tenements, rents and services which he had in the vill of Monesley [Munsley] and Ledebury [Ledbury] with their appurtenances, with the moiety of the manor of Monesley [Munsley], together with the advowson of the church of the said manor. To hold to the [duke] and his heirs of the chief lords of the fee, in such form that the duke gives the premises within eight days then next following to John and his heirs in tail. To hold to the duke and his heirs, paying to him and his heirs 40s a year at Michaelmas and Easter in equal portions and suit at the court of the duke of Asperton [Ashperton] twice a year or his attorney at the two main courts. If it happens that the rent to be in arrears, then it will be lawful for the duke and his ministers to distrain upon those lands and to drive out the distrain to his court of Asperton [Ashperton] and retain it there. If John dies without heirs in tail, then all these lands and premises are to remain to the duke and his heirs forever.
