Folios: 184-184v. Wiltshire. Agreement.
First party: Hawise de London.
Second party: John de la Huse.
Place or subject: John quitclaimed to Hawise the whole of his land with the capital messuage once of Bartholomew de la Huse in Upinglesham [Upper Inglesham], one hide of land in Hampton, and 22s of annual rent in la Throp [Thrupp] next to Magna Farndon [Faringdon]. To hold to Hawise and her heirs or assigns with all appurtenances and other things which could ever fall in any case to John or his heirs from that messuage and lands, just as is more fully contained in her charter, forever. And for this Hawise granted to John and Emma, his wife, that they should have, as long as they are alive, both of them, from her or her heirs yearly, entirely and fully the following, namely a suitable house to inhabit, together with a curtilage in the manor of Kynemerford [Kempsford], or 8s a year to rent one house in the vill of Heyworthe [Highworth], where they see it to be most expedient for them; twenty quarters of corn at the two terms of years, namely ten quarters of good and marketable wheat at Michaelmas, and ten quarters of good and marketable barley on the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. John and Emma will also have two cartloads of good hay from the haulage of two horses, to be received at the time of hay-making in the manor of Kynemerford [Kempsford] or Hanedon [Hannington]; and six cartloads of wood from the haulage of two horses at Michaelmas; and one ox or 6s., two pigs or 5s., four wethers or 4s at the feast of Martinmas, in such a way that it is to be at their choice, or that of the one of them who will be alive, as to whether they prefer to receive those beasts or their price. John will also have two honourable robes a year, namely at Michaelmas one winter one, and at the feast of the Ascension one summer one. And Emma, his wife, is to receive one robe a year from the suit of the maid-servants of Hawise. All these things are to be delivered to John and Emma at the costs of Hawise or her heirs in the manor of Kynemerford [Kempsford] or Heyworthe [Highworth], where they choose to live, entirely without dimunition or delay at these terms.
