Description

Folios: 172-172v. Hampshire. Final concord.

First party: William Briwer [Brewer].

Second party: Stephen, prior of St Swithin, Winchester, and the convent there.

Place or subject: The marsh of Hocton [Houghton] which William ditched in the first year of reign of King John, in order to enlarge his park of Hawude [How Wood]. Whereupon a plea of covenant was summoned between them in the same court, namely that the prior and convent quitclaimed for themselves and their successors to William Briwer' [Brewer] and his heirs the whole of that marsh, saving to the prior and convent and their successors the usual watercourse running to their mill of Hocton [Houghton]. For this concord WIlliam gave in exchange for that marsh to the prior and convent 20s of rent, namely 10s of rent of certain land which is in the great street of Winchester at the post that Jocelin Sinuch held, and 10s of land outside the south gate which is by the prior's barton.

County: [Hampshire].

Additional people: Made before G. fitz Peter; Simon de Pathill [Pattishall]; John de Gestling [Guestling]; Godfrey de Insulis [Lisle]; Walter de Cripping [Crepping], justices.

Made in the king's court at Westminster.

The quindene of Martinmas, 3 John.
