Description

Folios: 163v-164. Berkshire. Licence.

First party: Edward III.

Second party: Richard Lillyng [Lilling] and Elizabeth, his wife.

Place or subject: Licence for Richard and Elizabeth to enfeoff Godfrey Foliambe, knight, and William de Bughbrigge, clerk, of a moiety of the manor of Chepyng Lambourne [Chipping Lambourn] and a moiety of the hundred of Chepyng Lambourne [Chipping Lambourn] with appurtenances, which moieties are held of the king in chief. To hold to Godfrey and William and their heirs of the king and his heirs by the services due and accustomed forever. Licence for Godfrey and William that, once full and peaceful seisin has been had of those moieties, they might give and grant the same, excepting 1,000 acres of pasture and 500 acres of wood in the moiety of the manor, to Richard and Elizabeth, to have for the term of their lives of the king and his heirs by such services. After the deaths of Richard and Elizabeth, these moieties are to remain to John, duke of Lancaster [John of Gaunt], and Blanche, his wife, and their heirs in tail, to hold of the king and his heirs by such services forever. If the duke and Blanche die without heirs in tail, then the moieties are to remain to the right heirs of the duke. And licence for Godfrey and William to grant to Richard and Elizabeth pasture for all their own beasts in that pasture and housebote and haybote in that wood, to hold for the term of their lives of the king and his heirs by those services. Godfrey and William may grant that pasture and wood to the duke and Blanche, to hold to them and their heirs in tail, with remainder to the right heirs of the duke.
