Description

Folio: 160v. Berkshire. Grant.

First party: Henry de Lancaster, earl of Derby.

Second party: God and St Mary and the monastery of Ambresburi [Amesbury], and the earl's sister, Isabel, prioress there, and the convent of nuns there.

Place or subject: One cottage with appurtenances in Estgarston [East Garston], which John Aylwyne formerly held of the earl, and the advowson of the parish church of East Garston with all rights and appurtenances, and special licence to appropriate the same. For the salvation of the earl's soul and the salvatory state of his father, Henry, earl of Lancaster, and for the soul of Lady Maud, his late mother, and for the souls of his ancestors, and for the sincere affection which the earl bears towards his sister, Isabel of Lancaster, prioress of the monastery of Ambresburi [Amesbury]. To hold to the prioress and convent and their successors in free, pure and perpetual alms forever. When that church has been appropriated by the king's and the earl's licence to the monastery, the earl's sister Isabel is to dispose of the issues of the church for the whole of her life according to her will. And after her death, the issues are to be turned to the use of the convent of the monastery and their successors in the future.
