Description

Folio: 156. Bedfordshire. Grant.

First party: Edward II.

Second party: John de Kynardeseye, clerk.

Place or subject: The king has granted to John that he is to have again and hold the manor of Sutton with the hamlets of Potton, Holm [Holme] and Stratton with appurtenances, which he acquired from Alice la Latymer [Latimer], who held those of the king in chief as of the honor of Huntingdon, being in the king's hands, to him and his heirs in fee, without having obtained the king's licence upon this, and which for this reason were taken into the king's hands, to him and his heirs of the king and his heirs by the services thereupon due and accustomed forever. Afterwards, John may give and grant that manor to Alice, to hold to her for the whole of her life of the king and his heirs by those services. After her death, the manor is to remain to Nicholas le Latymer and his heirs in tail. If Nicholas dies without heirs in tail, the manor is to remain after their deaths to Thomas, earl of Lancaster, the king's kinsman, and his heirs, to hold of the king and his heirs by those services forever.
