Description

Folio: 151v. Bedfordshire. Inspeximus of letters patent.

First party: Richard II.

Second party: [unspecified].

Place or subject: It is established to the king by inspection of the rolls of the Chancery of Edward II that King Edward caused his letters to be made patent, as follows: Out of his special grace, Edward II granted to John de Kynardeseye, clerk, that he is to have again and hold the manor of Sutton with the hamlets of Potton, Holm [Holme] and Stratton with appurtenances, which he acquired from Alice la Latymer [Latimer], who held that from the king in chief as of the honor of Huntynton [Huntingdon] being in the king's hands, for himself and his heirs in fee, without obtaining the king's licence for this, and which by this reason they have been taken into the king's hands, to him and his heirs of the king and his heirs by the services due and accustomed forever. And that afterwards can John give and grant that manor to Alice. To hold to Alice for the whole of her life of the king and his heirs by those services. After her death, the manor is to remain to Nicholas le Latymer and his heirs in tail, to hold of the king and his heirs by those services forever. If Nicholas dies without heirs in tail, then after Alice and Nicholas have died the manor is to remain to Thomas, earl of Lancaster, the king's kinsman, and his heirs.
