Description

Folios: 142-142v. Bedfordshire. Inquisition.

Place or subject: An inquisition taken by pretext of a writ of diem clausit extremum of King Edward I, and returned into his Chancery in the eleventh year of his reign. The jurors say upon their oath that John le Latymer held nothing of the king in chief in Northamptonshire on the day he died of his own inheritance. But they say that he held the manor of Wardon [Chipping Warden] by Christiana, his wife, and that manor is worth £33 6½d per annum in all issues. And that the manor is held of the king in chief by the service of two and a half knights by forty days in his army. And the manor pays 20s per annum to the ward of the castle of Rokingham [Rockingham]. They also say that John held by Christiana, his wife, two parts of the manor of Braybrok [Braybrooke], paying 2s to the abbot of Cumbe [Combe]. And those two parts are worth £13 13s 7d per annum in all issues. He also held by Christiana, his wife, a third part of the manor of Corby. That manor is held of the king in chief for five marks a year, and the third part thereof is worth £7 6s 8d in all issues yearly. John also held by Christiana, his wife, 40s of rent in the vill of Welledon [Weldon], doing to the lords of the fee 5s 6d. And they say that Thomas le Latymer is his next heir and is aged twelve years.
