Folio: 142. Bedfordshire. Inquisition.

Place or subject: An inquisition taken by pretext of a certain writ of diem clausit extremum of Edward I and returned in his Chancery in the eleventh year of his reign. The jurors say upon their oath that John le Latymer held nothing in chief of the lord king in his bailiwick of his own inheritance or from that of anyone else on the day on which he died. John held in Gonumdale [Gumley] from the inheritance of Christiana, his wife, a certain chief messuage which is worth 7s per annum in all issues; four yardlands in demesne, each of which is worth 7s per annum in all issues;and five yardlands and two parts of one yardland in the same in villeinage, each of which is worth 7s a year in all issues. Doing homage and service to Ralph de St Laudo, who married Agnes de Meynel, lady of the fee, and scutage of Wales. John held in the same a certain wood that has been emparked and is worth 20s per annum without making waste. He also held in the same 2s 7d from the rent of freeholders. He held in Foxton from the same tenement four yardlands and three parts of one yardland, each of which is worth per annum in all issues 10s and half a pound of pepper of free rent. John held in Smetheton [Smeeton] from the inheritance of Christiana, his wife, six yardlands and a third part of a moiety of one yardland, each of which is worth 10s 8d per annum in all issues. Doing homage and service to Ralph de Turville of Normanton, and scutage of Wales. He also held in Langeton [Langton] from the inheritance of Christiana, his wife, six and a half yardlands and a third part of half a yardland, each of which is worth 11s per annum in all issues, and he pays scutage of Wales to Andrew de Asteleye. He also held a third part of one windmill in the same worth 10s 6d a year. They also say that Thomas, his son, is his next heir and is aged eleven. They also say that John did not have any moveable goods in Warwickshire or Leicestershire.
