Folios: 126-126v. Northamptonshire. Agreement.
First party: Pain de Cadurciis [Payn de Chaworth].
Second party: Thomas le Savage.
Place or subject: Thomas quitclaimed for himself and his heirs to Payn and his heirs or assigns the whole of his right and claim in the castle and vill of Audrinton [Alderton] with all appurtenances. Payn and his heirs or assigns are to find yearly for Thomas during all days of his life five marks of silver, namely two and a half marks at Easter and two and a half marks at Michaelmas. They are also to find yearly for Lady Maud, his wife, as long as she is alive, two marks of silver, namely one mark at Easter and one mark at Michaelmas. They are, in addition, to find for Maud every single year, while she is alive, one robe sufficient for her, and in the first year in which this agreement was made one suitable cape, and so on from then in every third year one cape, as long as she lives. They are to find for her yearly ten quarters of wheat, four quarters of barley and one quarter of oats every day of her life, namely two and a half quarters of wheat and one quarter of barley at Easter, the same quanitity at the Nativity of St John the Baptist, and the same and one quarter of oats at Michaelmas, and the same and one quarter of oats at Christmas. They are also to find for Maud, as long as she is alive, one house with a curtilage of hay and one cartload of straw and three cartloads of firewood [details given]. Payn bound himself to provide provision for Alice and Maud, daughters of Thomas, at least one yardland [details given]. And he will give to Robert and Geoffrey, sons of Thomas, suitable victuals and clothing, or cause it to be given to them. All these things Thomas and Maud are to receive at those terms every single year in the manor of Stokbruer [Stoke Bruerne] by the hands of the bailiff there for the time being. If Payn or his heirs or assigns make default in any payment, he granted for himself and his heirs and assigns that the sheriff of Northamptonshire for the time being can distrain the manor of Stoke Bruerne lawfully by all moveable and immoveables found there until satisfaction has been made to Thomas and Maud his wife according to the tenor of these presents. Which same sheriff, whenever he makes distraint for this reason, will receive one mark from the same manor for his labour. But if Thomas or Maud, his wife, have applied labours and costs in acquiring such things, Payn and his heirs or assigns are bound to pay all these costs and expenses. If Maud survives her husband, and seeks anything in the name of dower from the vill of Audrinton [Alderton], then Payn and his heirs are to be completely quit from this payment.
County: [Northamptonshire].
Additional people: Witnesses: Patrick and Hervey de Cadurciis [Chaworth]; Hugh de Plugenet; John le Let'; Robert de Pavely, knights; Hugh, son of Simon; and Nicholas Homeden.
