Description

Folios: 123-123v. Northamptonshire. Grant.

First party: Geoffrey de Filgeriis.

Second party: Ranulf, earl of Chester.

Place or subject: Geoffrey has granted to the earl, with Clemence, his sister, in free marriage, the whole of the marriage which was given with her to Alan de Dinanno, formerly her husband. Namely the whole of the land which Geoffrey's ancestors had in the valley of Moret' [Mortain] with all appurtenances and liberties of the same land, and one manor in England called Belingtona with all appurtenances and liberties, both freely, quietly and as entirely as William de St John had and held that on the year and day on which he was alive and dead. William had that manor in marriage with Olive, mother of Ralph de Filgeriis, his grandfather. If for any reason Geoffrey cannot deliver these lands in his other lands of his inheritance in England and Normandy, he is to complete to him £300 worth of land of money of Anjou. [Further details given]. Geoffrey has also given to earl in free marriage with his sister the whole of the dower of his mother, to have to the earl after his mother's death entirely and fully with all appurtenances, just as Geoffrey's father gave it to his mother in dower.

County: [Northamptonshire].

Additional people: William de Humetto [Hommet], constable of Normandy, swore to hold this lawfully and confirmed it by his seal. Witnesses: William, bishop of Constance; John, abbot of Alnetum; Angot, abbot of Luserna; William, abbot of Hambeie.
