Description

Folios: 121-121v. Sixty charters or muniments about Shenston [Shenstone], Staffordshire, in one box, marked by the letter S. Grant.

First party: Henry, earl of Lancaster and Leicester, steward of England.

Second party: John de Yoxhale [Yoxall].

Place or subject: Three crofts of land in the earl's chase of Nedewode [Needwood] near to Tatenhull' [Tatenhill] called Olde Tunstal [Dunstall], le Huyrene and Fletcherescroft, which John de Kynardeseye, clerk, held at one time. To hold to John and his heirs in tail of the earl and his heirs the same crofts with common of pasture in the chase of Nedewode [Needwood] for their own beasts. The earl and his heirs can make improvements from their wastes in the chace without opposition from John or his heirs, paying yearly to the earl and his heirs 20s of sterling at Michaelmas and Easter in equal portions. If this rent will be in arrears at any term beyond one year, or if John dies without heirs in tail, then it will be lawful for the earl and his heirs to reseise and retain thpse crofts int their hands forever without any opposition.
