Description

Folio: 120. Sixty charters or muniments about Shenston [Shenstone], Staffordshire, in one box, marked by the letter S. Final concord.

First party: Henry de Lancaster, earl of Derby.

Second party: John de Freford [Freeford] and Margaret, his wife, and Alice, formerly wife of Philip de Chetewynde, knight.

Place or subject: The manor of Rothale and two parts of the manor of Shenston [Shenstone] with appurtenances. Whereupon a plea of covenant was summoned between them in the same court, namely that John, Margaret and Alice acknowledged this manor and two parts to be the right of the earl and those they remitted and quitclaimed from the John and Margaret and Alice the heirs of Margaret and Alice to the earl and his heirs forever. In addiiton, John, Margaret and Alice granted for themselves and the heirs of Margaret and Alice that they shall warrant that manor to the earl and his heirs, and two parts thereof, against all men forever. For this quitclaim the earl gave John, Margaret and Alice £100 sterling.

Additional people: Made before John de Stonore, Roger Hillary, Richard de Kelleshull and Richard de Wylughby [Willoughby], justices.

Made in the king's court at Westminster.
