Description

Folios: 118v-119. Sixty charters or muniments about Shenston [Shenstone], Staffordshire, in one box, marked by the letter S. Final concord.

First party: John de Clynton [Clinton] of Coleshull [Coleshill] by Geoffrey de Clyf, his attorney.

Second party: Ralph de Grendon by William de Coleshull [Coleshill], his attorney.

Place or subject: A third part of the manor of Shenton [Shenstone] with appurtenances, which Theobald de Neville and Isabel, formerly the wife of Ralph de Grendon, hold in her dower. Whereupon a plea of covenant was summoned between them in court. Namely that Ralph acknowledged this third part to be the right of John, and he granted for himself and his heirs that this third part, which Theobald and Isabel hold in dower of Ralph's inheritance in that vill on the day on which this was made, which after Isabel's death ought to revert to Ralph and his heirs, after Isabel's death is to entirely remain to John and his heirs, to hold of the chief lords of that fee by the services which pertain to that third part forever. And Ralph and his heirs shall warrant to John and his heirs that third part against all men forever. For this concord John gave Ralph forty marks of silver.
