Description

Folios: 115v-116. Sixty charters or muniments about Shenston [Shenstone], Staffordshire, in one box, marked by the letter S. Taking of homage.

First party: Henry de Oilly with the assent of Sibyl, his wife, and Maud, his daughter and heir, and with the assent and will of William de Brai [Bray].

Second party: Robert de Grendon.

Place or subject: The homage of Robert, son of Robert de Grendona [Grendon], for a third part of one knight's fee with appurtenances in Schennestane [Shenstone], which William de Bray holds, and of which Robert, son of Robert, is his next heir. Henry also granted to Robert de Grendon, father of the Robert, whose homage he has taken, the custody of his son and the custody of the land of William de Bray with appurtenances which he holds of Henry. If by chance William de Bray dies before Robert, son of Robert attains his full age, and if Robert, son of Robert dies before he attains his full age and seisin of this land in Schennestan [Shenstone], Robert de Grendon, his father, will have the custody of those land with Richard, his son, or Cecily, his daughter, whichever of them is alive and is William's heir. For this homage, grant and the quitclaim of the relief and custody of the land, and for the marriage of the children of Robert de Grendon, whom he had by the daughter of William de Bray, and so that Robert de Grendon may have the said custody and assign it to whoever he wishes, he gave to Henry 100s and one palfrey.
