Description

Folios: 115-115v. Sixty charters or muniments about Shenston [Shenstone], Staffordshire, in one box, marked by the letter S. Settlement of dispute.

First party: John de Clynton [Clinton], lord of Colleshull [Coleshill].

Second party: Ralph de Grendon.

Place or subject: Settlement of a dispute concerning the feoffment of the manor of Schenestan [Shenstone] made to John de Clynton by Ralph de Grendon. John granted for himself and his heirs that he is bound to Ralph, Joan, his wife, and the heirs in tail of Ralph and Joan, in £400 of silver of annual rent from his manors of Shenstone and Colleshull [Coleshill], to be received yearly at the two terms of the year, at Michaelmas and the Annunciation of the Blessed Mary in equal portions, until they more fully hand over the manor of Shenstone, just as in the charter of feoffment made to John, together with the dower of Isabel, his mother, to Ralph and Joan and their heirs in tail. And if it happens that Ralph and Joan die without heirs in tail, John granted those £400 to Ralph#s right heirs. John also granted that Ralph and Joan and their heirs in tail can distrain in all his demesne lands of his manors of Shenstone and Colleshull [Coleshill], and drive that distraint to his manor of Grendon and retain it for this rent not being paid at those terms in part or in whole.
