Folio: 114v. Sixty charters or muniments about Shenston [Shenstone], Staffordshire, in one box, marked by the letter S. Agreement.
First party: The abbot of Osen' [Osney].
Second party: William de Brai [Bray].
Place or subject: It is agreed between the abbot and William concerning complaints moved between them, namely concerning certain lands which the abbot said pertain to his church and to Stanhale [Stonnall], that the abbot ought to choose six men, whom he wants, from the men of William de Brai, and William six men from the men of the same abbot. And the abbot of Crokesden [Croxden] ought to be the main [juror], and they ought to give judgement on oath as to whom those lands lawfully ought to pertain. In addition, WIlliam remitted forever to make a park, mention of which had been made. He also quitclaimed the abbot and his men of pannage, namely from pigs had before the feast of St John the Baptist. If by chance, at Martinmas, William does not believe any one of the men of the abbot from whom he has bought pigs after the feast of St John, they are to hand over pannage or ought to swear or make faith that they had been bought in such a manner. Furthermore, he acknowledged a certain charter which the canons have from him concerning the church of Schenestane [Shenstone] as lawful. He also granted to the abbot and his men in woods and plains common pasture and free entry and exit. He also granted to the abbot and his men that they can collect, etc, without impediment. As regards misdemeanours in the wood of William de Brai, it is agreed that the abbot ought to elect four knights and William de Brai four knights, and these eight ought to provide such amends as William ought to have, if the men of the abbot are found in his wood doing wrong. And these eight men similarly ought ot make provisions for amends, if the beasts of the men of the abbot are found in William's wood at the time of pannage, etc. And if by chance William wishes to make assarts from his woods, the abbot ought not to impede him, unless in the wood in which there ought to be a park. For this agreement the abbot gave William ten marks.
