Description

Folios: 113v-114. Sixty charters or muniments about Shenston [Shenstone], Staffordshire, in one box, marked by the letter S. Final concord.

First party: Robert de Grandon [Grendon], querent, by John de Eston, his attorney.

Second party: William de Pyrie, deforciant.

Place or subject: The custody and marriage of Thomas, son and heir of Thomas de Hamstede [Hamstead]. Whereupon Robert complained that William deforced him of the custodythat pertains to him, because Thomas, father of Thomas, whose heir he is, held his land of him in Swinifen [Swinfen] by knight service. And whereupon a plea was [summoned] between them in the same court. Namely, that William acknowledged and granted for himself and his heirs to Robert and his heirs the custody and marriage of this heir and of his heirs as that which pertains to him, on account that Thomas, father of the heir, held his land of him by knight service. Saving to William and his heirs the custody of all the lands which Thomas held of William in Hamstede [Hamstead] and Oscote [Oscott], forever. For this concord Robert gave William 100s sterling.

County: [Staffordshire].

Additional people: Made before Robert de Lexinton [Laxton]; Ralph de Sulleg'; William de Culewurth [Culworth]; John de Neville; and Robert de Haya, justices itinerant.

Made in the king's court at Worcester.

Three weeks after Easter Day, 25 Hen III.
