Place or subject: Edmund's mills of Newcastle under Lyme with appurtenances. To hold to the burgesses and their heirs with all suits and customs in any way belonging to those mills, freely, quietly, well and in peace, but saving to Edmund and his heirs and his household and their heirs free multure of every type of corn without toll being charged therein, whenever it happens Edmund, his heirs or his household come to the manor there or stay in the same. Edmund's bailiffs residing in that manor at the time will charge toll from their corn when they grind there, as is the custom, paying yearly to Edmund and his heirs or assigns seventy marks sterling at the two terms of the year, namely a moiety at Easter and the other moiety at Michaelmas. The burgesses and their heirs are to make and maintain those mills and fishpond with weirs, dams and other necessary things at their own costs. Towards making which payment of that farm, and sustaining and observing all the premises sufficiently and faithfully, the burgesses have bound themselves, their heirs and all their goods, wherever they will be found, in such a way that they are to be distrained towards the observation of all these matters.
