Place or subject: Although the king is given to understand that Gilbert le Fraunceis, deceased, held of the king by such service that the custody of all his lands and tenements, of whoever's fee those lands and tenements are, ought lawfully to pertain to the king, by which the king had granted the custody of the lands which Gilbert held of Edmund, the king's brother, by knight service, to his said brother, until the lawful age of Gilbert's heirs. Because it is established for the king that the custody of the same lands pertains to Edmund and not to the king, the king granted the custody of those lands to his brother as his right.
