Description

Folios: 57v-58. Leicestershire. Indenture.

First party: Henry, earl of Lancaster and Leicester, steward of England.

Second party: William Motoun, knight.

Place or subject: William had appurtenant to his manor of Peyhtlinton [Peckleton] the custody of the earl's park called Tolawe [Tooley Park] within his chase of Leicester, just as it is enclosed with pales, and common of pasture in that park for all manner of beasts throughout the whole year, except for sheep, pigs and goats. And he has within the park all his pigs quit from pannage and agistment, and housebote, haybote and 'fuyrbote' [further details given]. William has granted to the earl and his heirs and assigns the custody of that park and all profits which William or his ancestors have taken or can take therein. William and his heirs are to have forty pigs quit from pannage and agistment in the same park from Michaelmas to Martinmas. The earl grants William and his heirs that they are to have housebote, haybote and 'fuyrbote' in the wood of the earl of Scrathawe, Swythenhull and le Hore for their chief messuage of Peythlinton [Peckleton]. They can enclose and hold their wood of Peckleton, that is to say Shiracles, Scokkes, Boleacres and one plot of land adjoining, which is called Lokhawe, in severalty, and to make a park for their wild beasts, and make and maintain that enclosure forever by a ditch of six feet in width and three feet deep, or by one hedge of three feet high. They can also enclose and hold one wood called la Heye, and one plot of land adjoining, which is called Loundforlong, and one plot of land called Netherfouderby adjoining to the garden of Peckleton, in such a way that no wild beast is to be able to enter. These plots of land pertaining to William are to be enclosed from the common of the earl and to contain ten acres. [Further details given].
