Description

Folios: 54v-55. Leicestershire. Grant.

First party: Thomas, earl of Lancaster and Leicester, steward of England.

Second party: John, son and heir of Robert Abel.

Place or subject: One messuage and one yardland with appurtenances in the vill of Thikinhale [Ticknall] called Bollawelond, which messuage and yardland William de Smethesby handed over into the hands of Henry de Lascy [Lacy], earl of Lincoln [further details given], to hold to him and his heirs, paying to the earl of Lincoln 10s a year. The earl of Lancaster also granted to John twenty acres of wasteland in the vill of Ticknall, of which ten acres lie in a place called le Astwode near Scottesbrok and the other ten acres lie in a place called Smalwalkar near la Roche du Calk, which twenty acres the earl of Lancaster granted to Robert, to hold in serjeanty, paying 10s a year. To hold to John and his heirs, paying for those tenements 20s a year, and after the decease of the earl of Lancaster paying to the lords of the castle of Donyngton [Castle Donington] 20s at the usual terms in the vill of Ticknall.
