Description

Folios: 52v-53. Leicestershire. Grant.

First party: Peter de Leycestre, living in Norht' [Northampton].

Second party: Thomas, earl of Lancaster and Leicester, steward of England.

Place or subject: The custody of the gate of the castle of Leicester with corrodies, fees and all liberties and profits pertaining to that custody. To hold to the earl and his heirs in tail freely, quietly, entirely, well and in peace forever without any reservation. And if it happens the earl dies without heirs in tail, then the custody is to remain entirely after the death of the earl to Henry de Lancaster, brother of the earl, in tail. And if the Henry dies without heirs in tail, then the custody is to remain to John, brother of Henry, in tail. If the John dies without heirs in tail, then the custody is to remain to the right heirs of the earl. For this grant the earl gave to Peter 10 marks sterling in advance.
