Description

Folios: 51v-52. Leicestershire. Grant.

First party: William de Stok'.

Second party: Edmund, earl of Leicester [Edmund of Lancaster].

Place or subject: Whereas from the gift and grant of Robert de Campan', who holds of Edmund, earl of Leicester, in chief, William has six and a half yardlands with appurtenances in Stokes and he holds them of Robert and his heirs to William and his heirs, paying 100s a year, of which he has been satisfied for the six years next to come, William, in his first entry into those lands, for his peaceful seisin from having the will of Edmund, has granted that he will not diminish anything without the goodwill and licence of Edmund or his heirs from those 100s of yearly rent, nor will he take from the gift, sale or remise of Robert or his heirs any gift or remise by any way, by which Edmund or his heirs can lose the custody of those 100s a year after those six years or escheat in any way, unless by chance it will be that he can acquire from the grant of his feoffee the release of that rent. To hold all those lands from Edmund and his heirs in chief and without means by homage and foreign service previously due for this according to the quantity of the same.
