Place or subject: Simon granted to the church of St Mary of Bec and the monks there, in exchange and recompense for pasture and common of all his moveables within his wood of Baltelay according to the old ditch and ancient bounds of the same wood, the whole service and rent from the tenements of Jordan de Mareis, with all appurtenances and all kinds of issues and escheats which could fall in any way to Simon or his heirs; and one cotland with a dwelling house with all appurtenances which John Ginegone held in the vill of Hungerford, except for one acre which lies at Hanechull between the land of Adam de Helme and Jordan de Mareis; also one acre of land which was of Reginald Hareng called Bergacra outside the churchyard of Hungerford; also one half-burgage with appurtenances which Roger Pogge held in the vill of Hungerford; and the rent of 4d which he was accustomed to take yearly from the land which Peter le Sagihere held. In addition, the earl granted that he and his heirs and their men and tenants are to be free and quit both in fields and vills and also outside and in all other places from all secular service, action, complaints and demands and all kinds of suits of their courts and hundred-courts, both from the tenement of meadow called Widemerch, and also from all other their lands, tenements and possessions, whereof any secular service or suit could pertain to him or his heirs. Simon or his heirs or bailiffs cannot exact, take or extort anything from them by reason of any secular service from their lands or tenements.
