Description

Folios: 49-49v. Leicestershire. Grant.

First party: Roger the Goldsmith and Millicent, his wife.

Second party: Edmund, son of Henry III, earl of Leicester [Edmund of Lancaster].

Place or subject: Two messuages with appurtenances, lying in the parish of St Peter, Leycestre [Leicester], one of which lies between the land of John Oliver and the land which was of Ralph Page, and extends itself from the highway to the land which was of Richard Herbert, and one messuage lies between the land which was of Ralph Page and the land which was of John Page, and extends itself from the street which leads towards le Watyrloc as far as the other messuage. To receive yearly from those two messuages 5s of annual rent at the usual terms in Leicester, namely 20d at the Purification of the Blessed Mary, 20d at Pentecost and 20d at Michaelmas. To have to Edmund and his heirs or assigns freely, quietly, well and in peace without any opoosition or impediment of Roger and Millicent and their heirs forever. It will be lawful for Edmund and his heirs or assigns to make distraints by any means they wish in these two messuages to pay the same rent when it will be in arrears, without the opposition of anyone into whomsoever's hands or possession they pass. For this grant and obligation Edmund gave Roger and Millicent four marks of silver in advance.
