Place or subject: Whereas Henry and the others, at the instance of Robert de Ferrers, earl of Derby, bound themselves and their heirs, together with all their lands and tenements, to Edmund, son of Henry III [Edmund of Lancaster], and for the earl mainprised for paying to Edmund £50,000 sterling for the earl's ransom and that of his lands, the earl, wishing to make provision for the indemnity of his mainpernors, has handed over and committed to them all his lands and tenements, which the king and Edmund handed over to him in his delivery from prison. To hold to them and their heirs until full satisfaction has been made to Edmund or his heirs of the sum of £50,000 for the whole at the same time and once, just as in the earl's deed which he made to his mainpernors, is more fully contained. The earl also promises in good faith and firmly binds himself to his mainpernors that he will not impede the seisin of those mainpernors for those lands and tenements or allow it to be impeded in any way contrary to the abovesaid form.
