Description

Folios: 13v-14. Derby; Ferrers. Quitclaim.

First party: Maurice, son of Roger Ridel.

Second party: William de Ferrers, son of William de Ferrers, earl of Derebeye [Derby].

Place or subject: His right and claim in all lands, tenements, rents, homages, services, wards, reliefs and escheats with appurtenances which were of Roger, his father, and of his other ancestors in the vill of Chiche [St Osyth] and in Infairstede [Fairstead], Crustwyc, Legyere [Layer], Fratinge [Frating], Boreham, Senefeld [Shenfield] and in all other places, wherever they will be in England, without any reservation, namely in the vill of Chiche [St Osyth] one knight's fee and a half; in Fairstede [Fairstead] one knight's fee; in Crustwyc half a knight's fee; in Legyere [Layer] half a knight's fee; in Fratinge [Frating] one knight's fee; in Boreham half a knight's fee; and in Senefeld [Shenfield] half a knight's fee. Saving to Maurice and his heirs the marriage of his mother and thirty acres of land in Feyrstede [Fairstead] and 6d of rent from the mill of Fratinge [Frating], which descended to him by right of inheritance from Stephen Ridel, his uncle. To hold to William and his heirs of the king and other lords of the fees, just as Maurice's ancestors once held them, freely, quietly, in inheritance, well, in peace and forever, doing the services due and accustomed to the king and other lords of the fees. For this quitclaim Wlliam gave Maurice 40s of quitrent in his manor of Rubing for the whole of his life and 40s in money. And after Maurice's decease those 40s of quitrent are to revert to William and his heirs freely.
