Description

Folios: 9v-10. Derby; Ferrers. Grant.

First party: Robert de Ferrers, earl of Derby.

Second party: Peter Picot.

Place or subject: The earl grants to Peter and his heirs in tail by lawful marriage for his homage and service 100s of yearly rent, namely 40s from the earl's mill of Alrewasseleg [Alderwasley], which Robert, rector of the church of Duffeld [Duffield], was accustomed to receive. And 40s from his mill of Merchinton [Marchington], which Simon Tuk was accustomed to receive. And 20s from his mill of Barton [Barton under Needwood], to be received every single year, a moiety at Michaelmas and another moiety at the feast of St Mary in March [25 March]. To hold freely and quietly, well and in peace and entirely until the earl makes provision for him in lands or in wards or in marriages or escheats to the value of that rent, paying yearly to the earl and his heirs every year at Michaelmas one penny for all secular service, exaction and demand.
