Description

Folios: 9-9v. Derby; Ferrers. Quitclaim.

First party: Maurice, son of Roger Ridel.

Second party: William de Ferrers, son of William, Earl Ferrers.

Place or subject: The whole right and claim which Maurice had or could have in all lands, rents, homages, services, reliefs, escheats and all other things which were of Roger, his father, and all his ancestors in Chicche [St Osyth], Feirsted [Fairstead], Crustwik, Leghere [Layer], Fratinge [Frating], Borham [Boreham], Scenefeld [Shenfield] and in all other places, wherever they be in England, without any reservation. Saving to Maurice and his heirs the marriage of his mother and 36 acres of land in Feirsted [Fairstead] and 6d of rent from the mill of Fratinge [Frating], which descended to Maurice from Stephen Ridel, his uncle. To hold to William and his heirs of the king and other lords of the fees, just as Maurice's ancestors held them freely, quietly, in inheritance, well and in peace forever, doing the services due and accustomed for this to the king and other lords of the fees, in such a way that neither Maurice nor his heirs can or ought to have in any way any right or claim in these lands, rents, homages, services, reliefs, escheats and all other things from henceforth. For this grant William gave 40s of quitrent in Stebbing and Wdeham [Woodham Ferrers] for the whole his his life and 40s in money. After Maurice's decease the said 40s of quitrent are to revert to William and his heirs free and quit.
