Description

Folios: 3-3v. Derby; Ferrers. Grant.

First party: Robert de Ferrers, son and heir of William de Ferrers, formerly earl of Derby.

Second party: John de Suleny.

Place or subject: Robert grants John and his heirs or assigns and their heirs for their homage and service 120 acres of land with appurtenances upon le Brendes in the ward of Uttokes [Uttoxeter] with the wood standing thereupon, by certain boundaries and metes, lying next to the land of Henry Suwem, in length abutting upon the land of Gilbert the smith of Uttoxeter, and extending towards Gundesleg Fermes, and in width towards the forest, to do thereupon to his benefit, with the whole of Robert's capital messuage and garden of Uttokeshath [Uttoxeter]. To hold John and his heirs or assigns and their heirs, excepting religious men and Jews, freely, quietly, well and in peace, entirely in fee and inheritance, with housebote and haybote, by view of the foresters in the ward of Uttoxeter, with all liberties, free customs and easements within the vill of Uttoxeter and outside, with all free commons for their beasts, just as other freemen of the same manor have in the same common of the forest, and all their pigs from their own food quit from pannage in Robert's forest of Nedwod [Needwood], paying Robert and his heirs for this one penny yearly at Uttoxeter at Michaelmas into the hands of Robert's bailiffs for the time being for all secular service, exaction, custom, suit, court and demand.
