Description

Printed prize appeal from the High Court of Admiralty.

Captured ship: Vrouw Anna Christina (master Nanning Jacobs).

History: a Danish vessel, bound from Amsterdam to Brest, laden with timber, deals, hemp; taken on 31 December 1779 by HMS Centaur (John Neal Pleydell Nott) and brought into Portsmouth.

Appellant: The master.

Respondent: The captor.

Bound printed appeal with manuscript decree of 17 March 1781.

Folios 424-435v, comprising folios 424-425v: case on behalf of the appellant; folios 426-429v: appendix to the appellants' case; folios 430-431v: case on behalf of the respondent; folios 432-435v: appendix to the respondents' case.

Session of Saturday 17 March 1781, in the Council Chamber, Whitehall: sentence recorded in manuscript on folio 431:-

  • Present: Henry, Earl Bathurst, Lord President of the Council; Earl of Sandwich; Earl of Clarendon; Welborne Ellis, Sir John Eardley Wilmot; Sir Thomas Parker; Sir Richard Worsley.
  • De Vrouw Anna [sic], Nanning Jacobs master. Fountain. Crespigny. For sentence on the second assignation and informations.
  • "The Lords having heard informations and counsel on both sides by their interlocutory decree affirmed the decree of the judge below and decreed the cause to be remitted.
