Folios 337-343. [Folios 337-342] Copy of a letter from Meyercron [Meyercron; Henning M. (1645-1707); -; Danish ambassador in Paris 1674 1679 and 1685-1706] to the King of Denmark, reporting on discussions with Messrs de Pomponne and de Torcy who were asking what news he had received from Copenhagen, and if he was not aware of what Mr Plessen [Danish chamberlain and later president of the Treasury Christian Siegfried von Plessen (1646-1723)?] had done at The Hague. Meyercron denied reports that the Danish King would enter the Grand Alliance and provide troops for the Allies against France, Mr Plessen's negotiation only related to trade, and he expressed surprise that any store was still being placed in these reports. Messrs de Pomponne and de Torcy referred in turn to a Treaty concluded in The Hague on 1 October 1692 by Mr Plessen and ministers for England and the States General, producing a paper containing the substance of various secret articles in an alliance concluded with England and Holland and noting in particular two articles: (i) that in the event of a continuation of the war, the Danish King would send 2,000 infantrymen and 1,000 horses next spring; (ii) restrictions on French vessels stopping at Danish ports. The French King wished to draw the Danish King's attention to this, it being discussed openly in Hamburg, as he struggled to believe that the latter would have undertaken something so opposed to his commitments to France, after so many punctually paid subsidies; he wished to know from the Danish King that these reports were false. Refers to further discussions, including with Bonrepos [Bonrepaus; François d'Usson de (1650-1719); French diplomat], regarding the same. [Folios 342-343] Copy of a letter from Meyercron to Jessen [Jessen; Thomas Balthazar von (1648-1731); Danish statesman and diplomat] expressing his surprise and irritation to hear the news of the Treaty mentioned in his letter to the King. It appears to be a matter of great importance and sensitivity, not to mention dangerous for the interests of Denmark to fall out with France with peace on the horizon. Notes that France can push war better than the Allies, having more certain means to do so having freed itself from war in Italy, and adds that they will lose their present subsidies and close to two million after peace.
