Folios 324-330. Copy of a letter from d'Avaux [Jean-Antoine de Mesmes, called d'Avaux (1640-1709)?] to the French King reporting the public declaration of the King of Sweden noting the difference in his treatment by the Emperor and the French King. Starenberg repeated the same restrictions that the emperor brings to his acceptance of the King of Sweden's mediation, and was very poorly received. It is believed that it is for this reason that Starenberg has sent his secretary to Vienna; his return is awaited with impatience, and speculation is that he will bring an acceptance, pure and simple, of Swedish mediation. Meanwhile the King of Sweden has instructed Lilienrodt [Niels, Baron of Lilliënrot, Swedish diplomat] to advise Heinsius that he wishes the mediation to take place in Bremen. d'Avaux seeks an update on the state of negotiations in The Hague, to better enable him to satisfy the King of Sweden of their equal and sincere dealings, and for instructions for matters arising following the return of Starenberg's secretary. The Polish envoy had been to see d'Avaux and appeared to be very attached to the Queen of Poland and the Cardinal [Rattiofsky?] and sympathetic to the French King; they discussed various diplomatic matters. Refers to the payment of 12,000 livres to each of Guldenstolp [Gyldenstolpe, Nils (1642-1709); Swedish ambassador at The Hague] and de Vrede) and a request from 'Bielke' to visit Sweden. Discusses the King of Sweden's awareness of the good treatment of his subjects in France, and of reports from those Swedes in the service of Holland of being disgusted with it. Notes reports just received that the treaty between the King of Denmark and the States General and Prince of Orange is finally signed.
