Folios 312-315. Copy of a letter from the King of France to d'Avaux [Jean-Antoine de Mesmes, called d'Avaux (1640-1709)?] (indicated to be a piece which had been lost with the ship taken by the French). Refers to Lilienrodt's [Niels, Baron of Lilliënrot, Swedish diplomat] memorandum to the King of Sweden on the status of negotiations in Holland, which differs greatly from what is happening in reality. He trusts that the King of Sweden will wait to declare himself until d'Avaux has been able to clarify the position in respect of the reports he is receiving from The Hague. Further discussion of the French position on Luxembourg and Strasbourg and the Treaty of Nijmegen. Refers to negotiations in Italy and the Emperor's acceptance of neutrality. Expresses his pleasure that the King of Sweden does not intend to support 'Prince Jacques' [James Louis Henry Sobieski?] for the Polish crown. Notes the growing support for his cousin the Prince of Conty and his assistance to strengthen that support in any way that he can.
