Description

Prisoner name: Richard Heritage.

Court and Date of Trial: Warwick [Warwickshire] Quarter Sessions held at Coventry April 1849.

Crime: Stealing potatoes.

Initial sentence: Seven years' transportation.

Gaoler's Report: Convicted before.

Outcome: Nil.

Petitions and letters: Petition by Avis Heritage, prisoner's wife and undersigned by Joseph Alleyne, curate of Exhall Warwickshire reciting that the prisoner was convicted on the evidence of his accomplice who had planned the robbery and was acquitted. The petitioner pleads family dependents and asks for a mitigation of the sentence to two years' imprisonment.
