Description

This series contains all documents received in evidence by the Inquiry that were disclosed to core participants, including documents adduced in evidence at the Inquiry's public hearings or referred to in its reports.

Some of the evidence received by the inquiry pre-dates the establishment of the inquiry itself, sometimes by several decades. Where physical documents were scanned and provided to the Inquiry in digital format, the dates reflect the dates of the original records.

This series includes content that reflects the trauma and distress experienced by those present during, or affected by, the tragic events of 14 June 2017.

Arrangement

Evidence records were managed within a document management system. Each document was given a unique reference number to assist the inquiry with identifying the source material. Reports, transcripts and recordings of public hearings may use these numbers to refer to the evidence records.

Administrative / biographical background

Evidence was received during both phases of the Inquiry.

Phase 1 examined exactly how the fire started, how it escaped from the flat of origin and how fire and smoke was able to spread throughout the building, as well as the response of the emergency services.

Phase 2 examined the underlying causes of the disaster, including the decisions made in relation to critical aspects of the design and construction of the cladding system, the adequacy of the regulatory regime and the response of central and local government.
