Folios 286-287: Anthony James Molloy, HMS Ganges, Spithead. Encloses a letter received from the Lieutenants and Gentlemen of the Wardroom regarding drunken and immoral behaviour of Mr Nicholson, who has recently joined as Chaplain. This morning Captain Molloy personally found him smelling strongly of alcohol, and incapable. He therefore requests his immediate replacement and/or an order to discharge him as he would wish to avoid a Court Martial. The matter is urgent as the ship is under orders to put to sea.
Folios 288-289: enclosure with folios 286-287. Letter dated 23 March 1793 to Captain Molloy from 7 signatories: J Whitly, Joseph Bingham, N C Jones, James Cleverley, William Tatlock, Thomas Seeds, J Wharton, HMS Ganges, Spithead, regarding the conduct of Mr Nicholson, Chaplain, who arrived on board yesterday. He has been so intoxicated that he cannot walk or get out of bed unaided.
