Folios 215-216: George Maxwell, HMS Lord Mulgrave, Hull Roads. He has received the letter of 12 August with the Affidavit of Robert Topcliff of County Durham, Owner of the Jenny of Sunderland, and the application for the discharge of George Fleming who belongs to the vessel and was pressed to HMS Lord Mulgrave. He has been asked to explain why the man was pressed, when Protected. There was a difference in age between the Protection, and that on the Owner's Affidavit made before a magistrate in Sunderland. He also did not match the description , so he concluded this was not the man for whom the Protection was granted. Returns the Affidavit and Mr Burden's letter.
