Folios 619-620: John Martin Hanchett, HMS Diadem, Plymouth Sound.
Reports arriving from Bermuda on 9 November 1814 in a convoy with HMS Dolphin. She has wounded men on board together with the sick, women and children from the Chesapeake squadron and from the army employed there. This amounted to three hundred and five of whom twenty five have died. In addition she is carrying all the staves and lumber from the fleet. Fifteen of the crew of HMS Diadem were drafted into HMS Albion with eighteen neutral prisoners who understood that they would be discharged on arrival in England.
Admiral Sir George Cockburn authorised the use of women on board as nurses and one has become ill from washing the patients. The lack of fresh provisions on the voyage resulted in nurses and prisoners being discharged into the hospital. Further details follow.
The day before HMS Diadem and HMS Dolphin put out, HMS Amphion arrived at Bermuda due to sail five days later with a convoy for England. Reports that a large armed American privateer is cruising off [?Madliza].
Folio 621: enclosure with folios 619-620. List of defects of HMS Diadem, 5 December 1814 signed by the captain and by the carpenter John Harrower. Explanations for various problems are given.
Folios 622-623: enclosure with folios 619-620. Signed by Admiral George Cockburn, HMS Albion, Bermuda, 31 October 1814 orders Hanchett to take on board eighteen named persons who are citizens of European countries to England so that they may return to their countries.
