Folios 616-617: Lucius Ferdinand Hardyman, Nutshaling Cottage, near Southampton.
Refers to the enclosure regarding John Bowen, on board HMS Unicorn. States that he is a man of good conduct and asks that the R be removed from his name.
Folio 618: enclosure with folios 616-617. Lucius Hardyman states the case of John Bowen, sailmaker. He recounts that Bowen was on board HMS Nemesis when Lord Nelson inspected the harbour at Milford and that afterwards he went on shore and was intoxicated so missing the ship when it went to sea. He sailed to the Baltic on board a merchant vessel boarding HMS Unicorn when she arrived at Elsinore in July 1801 believing that there was an amnesty for deserters at the time.
A certificate shows that Bowen served on HMS Unicorn from 31 August 1809 to 12 April 1811. Signed by Captain Alexander Robert Kerr. A second certificate show Bowen served On HMS Unicorn under Lucius Hardyman between 20 September 1813 to 6 October 1814 .
