Description

Folios 283-284: headed number 17. James Hillyar, Talco, 27 April 1814 writes to Generals O’Higgins and Mackinna, plenipotentiaries for the government of Chile. Refers to an enclosed official document [not present] given to him by General Gainza who proposes to take a guard of twenty five men to a place half way between Quechereguas and Falca to meet General O’Higgins. Hillyar offers to act as guarantor of the good faith of both parties.

Folios 285-286: headed number 18. O’Higgins and Mackenna, write in Spanish to James Hillyar.

Folios 287-288: headed number 19. Gavino Gainza, 29 April 1814, Talca, writes in Spanish to James Hillyar.

Folios 289-290: headed number 20. James Hillyar, Talca, 29 April 1814. Writing to Generals O’Higgins and Mackenna he notes that both parties will carry a flag of truce when meeting the next day at noon at a place to be named by the Chilean parties. Refers to an enclosed copy of an order from General Gainza [not present].

Folios 295-296: Headed number 24.1 May 1814, Gavino Gainza, Bernard O’Higgins and Juan Mackinna sign a letter in Spanish addressed to James Hillyar.

Folios 297-298: headed number 25. 2 May 1814, Gavino Gainza writes in Spanish to James Hillyar.

Folios 299-300: headed number 26. Bernard O’Higgins and Juan mackenna, May 1814 write in Spanish to James Hillyar.

Folios 301- 304: headed number 27. Letter in Spanish.

Folios 305-310: headed number 28. Letter in Spanish signed by Bernard O’Higgins, Juan Mackenna, Gavin Gainza and others.

Folios 311-312: headed number 29. James Hillyar, Curico, 5 May 1814 writes to O’Higgins and Mackenna acknowledging receipt of a letter and enclosed copy of a letter from General Gainza. He is very surprised at the contents as he had understood something different on leaving the general the previous day. He had believed that Gainza was fully satisfied with the written agreement.

Folios 313-314: headed number 30. Bernard O’Higgins and Juan Mackenna write in Spanish to James Hillyar.
