Description

Folios 252-253: Sir Richard John Strachan, HMS Donegal, 10 Leagues off Cadiz. Sends in haste by HMS Prevoyante concerning the Spanish preparations at Cadiz, encloses a November report from HM Consul in Cadiz, Mr Duff, and that the combined force of Spanish ships from various ports will 21 be sail, the French ship of the line L'Aigle and the Corvettes La Touche and Argus are preparing for sea, the Ferrol squadron is expected off Cadiz, has ordered HMS Amphion, Captain Samuel Sutton, to convoy the trade to Lisbon and then to return to Gibraltar, HMS Monmouth and HMS Agincourt are on a secret service.

Folios 254-255: enclosure in folios 252-253. Letter dated 16 December 1803 from John Hookham Frere, British Ambassador to Spain, Madrid to Lieutenant Governor of Gibraltar, Sir Thomas Trigge, KB, Gibraltar. Recommends that precautions be taken to prepare for war and to communicate the same to the Commanders of HM Ships at Gibraltar.

Folios 256-257: enclosure in folios 252-253. Report dated 5 December 1803 of Naval Occurrences for November 1803 from Cadiz. The fitting out of 6 ships continues, only the America id complete, At Ferrol a further 5 ships are to be armed, at Cartaghena, the Argonaut with 84 guns and the Bahamas with 74 guns are fitted out and several Frigates,
