The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) was launched in October 2016 as the organisation of the UK Government that provides advice and support for the public and private sector in how to avoid computer security threats. Its parent organisation is Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ). The NSSC brought together expertise from other organisations: it absorbed and replaced the CESG (the information assurance arm of GCHQ), the Centre for Cyber Assessment (CCA) Computer Emergency Response Team UK (CERT UK), and the cyber-related responsibilities of the Centre for Protection of National Infrastructure (CPNI).
