Description

Folios 185-189. Report of the Commission given by his Majesty for inquiring into the slaughter of the men of Glenco[e] subscribed at Holyrudehouse [Holyrood House] the twentieth day of June 1695'. The Commissioners are John, Marquis of Tweedale Lord High Chancellor of Scotland; William, Earl of Annandale; John, Lord Murray, Sir James Steuart the King's Advocate; Adam Cockburn of Ormiestoun Lord Justice Clerk; Sir Archibald Hope of Rankeillor and Sir William Hamilton of Whitelaw two of the senators of the College of Justice; Sir James Ogilvie the King's Solicitor and Adam Drummond of Megginch. Remit of the commission; appointment of Mr Alexander Monro of Beircroft as clerk to the Commissioners; the matters to be considered namely 'some things that preceeded the said slaughter' [folios 185 verso-186]; 'the matters of fact with the proofs and evidence taken when and in what manner the same was committed' [folios 186-187]; 'of the warrands [sic] and directions that either really were or were pretended for the committing thereof' [folios 187-188]; 'And lastly the Commissioners humble opinion of the true state and account of that whole business'. [folios 187-189].
