Description

Folios 260-261. Copy of a memorandum entitled: 'Business to be done the next session of parliament [of Scotland]'. Acts mentioned: bringing in Episcopal clergy; re-establishing the King's power to call and dissolve [?Church of Scotland] assemblies; granting the King six months Cess yearly, for three years, from 1 February 1695; establishing a new militia act; recruiting the Scots regiments abroad; creating additional malt excise; allowing the King's officers to vote in parliamentary committees; limiting patronage; changing wardholdings to fews; discharging recognitions; and authorising double-Cess for Papists [Roman Catholics]. Consideration is also to be given to: the bolstering of trade and shipping, and the suppression of privateers; whether 'it not be fit that the King [William III of England and II of Scotland] and Queen [Mary II] make their revocation in this session of parliament'; and 'what can be done to stop the clamour of the kingdom against the sessions and persons in other judicatores'.
