Description

Folio 247. An account entitled 'A View of His Majesty's [King William III] Expense for a year in Time of Peace', amounting to £1,200,000 annually. Listed items included: navy; ordnance; foreign ministers; pensioners; the Queen [Mary II]; the Queen Dowager [Catherine of Braganza]; Princess [Anne]; Tower [of London] expense; 'healing medals' [?touch pieces for the King's Evil]; 'persons instrumental in the late King's escape after the fight at Worcester; payments to hospitals, Colleges and several learned men'; and that 'secret service maybe paid through Mr Guy's hands'.
