Folios 235-237. Jean Adolf, Duke of Holstein, to the King, dated at Ninove. Finds himself there in a bad state, with the enemy marching on all sides. It is said that Boufflers has brought with him 22 infantry battalions and 42 cavalry squadrons and that Luxembourg has sent him better troops (namely 36 battalions and 40 squadrons) which must have started to march before yesterday. Given the condition of the army, he sees no possibility of doing anything on the side of Liege without abandoning everywhere else, and thought it best instead to guard Flanders and Brussels. Believes Boufflers will ruin at least all of the quarters between Maastricht and Liege, in which case he seeks the King's orders on where to lodge the regiment. Reminds the King of the need to consider remounting the cavalry and new recruits if they want to be in a position to do something by spring. Luneburg is marching with the rest of the army towards Courtrai to quarter there.
